Still Counting...

today is the 2nd day of my hibernation. i havent stepped out of the house for 2 days. well, the furthest i went today was the garage. at least i walked *out* of the house, yeh?

dont get me wrong, i havent been totally studying or whatever. i procrastinate a lot. a bit too much. so i guess i can't really complain about not having enough time and how im scared im going to fail something this semster, yeh?

apart from refusing to go outside of the boundaries of my home (more like the four walls of my home), another sad thing is that i have $0.25 so go until i actually go OVER the $230 worth of calls i can make per month. how sad? i dont go out, i dont do anything. but my phone bill sky rockets. but then again, being the *oh-so-popular-and-social* me, how else am i supposed to talk to people and keep in contact? =P

it's funny how i get hungry so frequently when im (supposedly) studying! it's like i HAVE to be constantly munching and chewing. but then jo just told me (yeh on the phone but she called me) that she cant help it either. i think that's why i feel not bloated, but just kind of, *gasp* FAT.

seriously, that F word is such a taboo these days. you can't say it in public, you can mention it, you cant even hint it. sooner or later, the S word is going to turn taboo... and i mean the word SKINNY. or the T word, THIN. and then one day, we just cant compose a sentence with more than 5 words because everything is taboo.

dont you just hate it when you were going to say something and then suddenly you can't remember a single trace of it? not even like a crumb of the thought. mum recons it's an early sign of the Alzheimer's Disease. =S

oh yeh! i remember now. i recon my heater is giving me a tan because each time i turn it on and my whole room literally becomes a sauna, the next morning i look a little darker. james lee recons my heater can't give me a tan because it doesnt give off UV rays or something. but im serious, the heat coming out of the heater, is burning my epidermis. it's true. dont argue with me. *raah!*

anyhow, i better leave this here for today.

1 down, 3 to go... $0.25 left... and still counting...

James Lee sent me this,

'2 fish were in a tank. One said to the other, 'Hey you know how to drive one of these?''

i cracked up at that when i first read it. but now, i think the way i said it has stuffed it up haha... but oh well! you guys get it, right? hehe

SHOUT OUT: JO, JULIE AND MASI! thanks for helping with property law! =)

and oh yeh, the OZ v Brazil match is on right now. but im planning to sleep.

SHOUT OUT: JAMES HUANG 很抱歉我之前沒有跟你說謝謝. 謝謝你關懷 !! 我有空一定會去高雄找你的喔 !! =) enjoy south africa!! and X MEN WAS GOOD! I LOVE ANGEL!! he's so handsome... 太帥了...

The Hard Truth About iPods

Got this email from dad. I've put it up on my Xanga already. Can't help but post it here as well.

~~
The Hard Truth About iPods
Sumner Lemon, IDG News Service

15/06/2006 09:38:15

Put your iPod on pause for a moment. There is something you should know: The Chinese factory workers who assembled your music player work long hours and do not earn a lot of money.

Many of these workers are employed by Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., a Taiwanese contract manufacturer known by its Foxconn brand, the Mail On Sunday, a U.K. newspaper, reported last weekend.

Low-paid workers toil long hours at Hon Hai's Longhua, China, plant to produce Apple Computer's popular iPod nano music player, the newspaper said. It put the monthly salary of these workers at 27pounds (AU$67.79). Workers at a different company that produces the iPod shuffle were paid 54pounds per month. These workers paid for their own room and board, which amounted to around half of their salary, it said.

The manufacturing relationship between Apple and Hon Hai is typical in the electronics industry.

In most cases, electronics manufacturing isn't handled by the company that sells the final product, but by a contract manufacturer. Vendors squeeze the contract manufacturers hard to boost their own profit margins, often playing one off against another to get the lowest price. In turn, contract manufacturers look to reduce their costs as much as possible, and that means keeping wages low.

This hard truth explains how corporations can produce affordable electronic products, such as computers, game consoles, and digital music players, that are exported to the U.S. and Europe.

"The monthly wages earned are, yes, low. However, the buying power of those wages can put food on the table," said Danny Levinson [CQ], publisher and editor of BDL Media's ChinaCSR.com, a corporate social responsibility Web site.

The greater purchasing power of the renminbi, China's currency, was noted in a 2005 report on Chinese factory wages commissioned by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. "Prices of goods and services vary greatly among countries, and the official exchange rate is not a reliable indicator of the relative difference in prices between China and other countries," the report said.

Most manufacturers, including Hon Hai, rely on migrant workers for labor. These workers, usually young women, come from China's poorer rural areas in search of jobs and a salary. For these workers, a monthly salary of AU$67.79, plus room and board, is more than can be earned at home and provides an important financial boost for their families.

Workers are often housed in company dormitories, usually within the same compound as the factory. Security can be tight. Most factories have security guards stationed at outside gates and entrances to the factory.

For example, at Dell's manufacturing plant in Xiamen, workers pass through a metal detector when leaving the factory. The measure was designed to prevent the theft of valuable computer components, such as memory modules, that can quickly drive up the company's manufacturing costs.

Apple is taking the allegations of difficult working conditions at Hon Hai seriously, it said.

"Apple is committed to ensuring that working conditions in our supply chain are safe, workers are treated with respect and dignity, and manufacturing processes are environmentally responsible," it said, noting that claims made in the Mail On Sunday report are being investigated.

serin-chan ganbatte~!

went to bed at 5 this morning. how sad. i didnt even realise the time and i thought i could take a small break and play some net games with wai ho while surfing through other people's blog. then we realised it was 4 something and man, yewon was still up on msn so i was like *wow u'r still up too?* and it turned out that both of us didnt realise the time... haha she was like *craporz ... i think i'll hop into bed now...* (something like that) hehe she's so cute~

had the WEIRDEST dream as well. omg i saw so many people in my dream, it's like when one person suddenly turns into someone else you know and you dont feel like you're yourself but you know that is you in the dream... ok, i think i am yit-hei coz some auntie said you dream when you are yit-hei... better drink more water... ><""

just read celine's blog entry and gave her a comment to vent a bit and to let her know she's not the only one feeling that way...

my comment was...

i totally understand you man. i feel you... *virtual hug*
i got my law essay back and man, i felt like breaking down man. it's like, such an insult to my work with that mark, but then i understand how i didnt, like you said, 'give them what they wanted', so to say. my lecturer said it's not that i dont know my stuff, it's just that she didnt now *how* to give me the marks because it didnt fit in with the criteria.

dont worry, these few weeks will pass by soon. i just wish and pray everyone passes with a happy face~

i totally resonated with this line in her entry...

i suppost there's the fact that i never actually answer questions properly...like... i know the answer but i dun give them what they want...mainly coz i duno what they want

*sigh*... better continue on with *managing market risk*...

Assignments and a Quiz from Jieun

im procrastinating big time right now. slept all afternoon after piano and yum cha. saw wai ho and his mum at the yum cha place too.

got my 3 marks back for my law assignment because my tutor realised it was my computer's fault and not my inability to choose 1.5 line spacing. *sigh* im still pissing-my-pants scared about property law. fark.

got my econ350 assignment back. didnt get any sort of remarks except for *good work*. james lee said he'll get his after the exam so he wont be affected by his mark. james zhao was complaining about his mark even though he only spent 5 hours doing it... my friends are funny hahahahahahahaha. i was planning to email my lecturer and ask where my 4 marks went since i was only 4 marks off full marks and because he had only written *good work* as a comment. he didnt even tick any of the boxes in the marking criteria thingie-o. but then again, who cares... better spend more time on studying for the finals aye?

dont wanna talk about my fin310 assignment. carol and i are daymn pissed about it. not happy. full stop.

i hope i dont fail anything this time. im so praying for at least a Pass in every subject. but right now, im not doing anything about it coz im here blogging and im about to do the quiz i scabbed off jieun's xanga

Funny Stuff

SHOUT OUT: HAPPY BIRTHDAY DARREN! I HAD SO MUCH FUN TONIGHT! hehehehe

let's start with sometime in the wee hours of yester-morning...

jules calls me up and whispers down the phone to ask me how much i've done for constitution. i was friggin sleeping and it took me a while to register that i actually answered my mobile, WHICH WAS ON VIBRATION. apart from the surprise that i had unconscionously answered a call which i would not have heard, was that it's near the end of the sem and people are still asking if im doing constitution law this semester.

no i am not doing constitution this semester. and i wont be for this year. im planning to do it next year. hehe =)

but she's not the first one to ask me how much of constitution i have done. it's funny how many people try to scab notes off me because that would seriously mean they are struggling because im not one of the nerds who kick everything... and people know that

and then this morning. i woke up and as i was walking around the house, i felt something was in my sock and it was getting really annoying. guess what it was!!! it was half of my toe nail. i dont know what happened, now one on of my toes, i have half a nail and the occasional pain. but it did break off nicely. i dont have to cut it for a while now. hehehehe

went to darren's place for his birthday. FINALLY learnt how to play poker and i guess i can start talking to chris about it at uni haha... the food was nice but not the stuff we had to eat/drink when we lost in poker. my tummy still hurts from my concoction. eiw...

eunis told me darren was turning X this year and i actually believed her. i bought the wrong card ><"" because darren was actually turning X-1 this year... argh!

anyways

enough for this time...

Today, Today, Today...

today was a half long day because it wasnt a full long day (so to say) yet a lot happened. well not a lot full on, but enough...

oh yeh, just got this from wai ho...

http://www.eepybird.com/dcm1.html

what a waste of coke (i agree with ken here) but then it's only diet coke. ken said the coke in the gold bottle is really eiw because it has no sugar or something. i prefer sugar in my coke. hehe~~

anyways! back to today...

woke up heaps early (9 something) to practice the piano one last time because my exam, which was supposed to be at 220PM but the examiner had asked if i wanted to do mine earlier so i just followed her in at 2PM.

caught the bus from castle hill to wynyard station. had some food at this cafe but seriously, for $7.90, the grilled vegetables sandwich looked like some $0.50 toast from a school fete. it was THAT bad. no side chips, no side salad. i was so disappointed. i had even told the waitress that i was disappointed and i didnt think the sandwich was worth $7.90 and she said every other restraunt is heaps more expensive. but my defence was that say for $11.50, i get a larger sandwich AND side dishes of either chips, wedges or garden salad. i was really unimpressed. but oh well, i couldnt start up anything because i had to keep myself composed for the exam.

we went past a red cross donation building thing, and next to it was a shop, kind of like the odd op-shop but nicer and brighter. the things were actually real branded items and they were donated to the red cross. how nice of people. =)

so mum and i were looking at the skirts on the rack and MAN WE SAW THE BEST BUY EVER! a skirt with belt for $15. i so recon if the skirt was at MYER or DJ, it would have been $50-$60 up. my bro didnt see anything in particular but we still bought him a vest. haha, cant let go of such an opportunity! and i saw a really cute vest for $10. seriously, no one can resist such a shop!

but one thing that scared me was the real rabbit skin/fur jacket they had there on sale at $130. i thought it was mink! seriously, i was so brain frozen when the lady was like *that's really nice for real rabbit fur*. mum, my bro and i just left (we've paid already).

then we went to the AMEB studio and basically sat there. well, i sat there in fear, while my mum and bro were just bored crapless. blahblah blah, long story short, went in, had an exam, came out. i got a grade that was heaps better to what i thought i was getting in the morning but not as good as what i expected myself to get. so it was all good.

we caught the bus back to castle hill and we all had afternoon tea at castle tower. i had a really nice, banana, caramel and cream pie and a mug of hot chocolate. mum had a muffin and coffee. my bro had this really nice but kinda gay carbonated apple juice/drink. haha~ i so can't get buy without a slice of cake or something these days. the cream was so nice! and the chic gave me whipped cream and ice cream on the side! now that's what i call service and for just under $5, it was worth it. unlike *some* un-mention-able *cough* grilled vegetable sandwich *cough* at wynyard station *nudge nudge wink wink*

we had hot pot for dinner tonight as well~ really yummy and warmed me up for a winter's day like today. =)

SHOUT OUT TO TINA: CONGRATES FOR PASSING 8TH GRADE CLASSICAL! WHOO HOO!! WE BOTH PASSED OUR PIANO EXAM! YAY!!

so i guess today was an aight day to balance out the shyte i was going through for the past 3-4 days. *sigh* i guess i'll have to study harder for the finals, yeh?

well, until next time, tata la~

JYKW

ps. SHOUT OUT TO JOANNA, CAROL AND ROSS!! thank you for your encouragements! love you guys heaps! oh yeh, and james lee coz he did mention good luck to me haha~~

Deeply Cut

i was deeply cut just then by an old friend. *sigh*

it's like when people have their own careers and life, they tend to throw away everything else they have once said, and stupid enough i actually took what they said to heart.

now that everything they have ever dreamt of have come true, what about the things they've said before? what about me? am i to just sit here and hope that things will turn out right?

well, i do wish them well. i guess that is all left for me to do? i mean, seriously, i feel used and down right stupid but at least their lives are perfect according to their dreams.

crying about it won't do anything because they'll never know... it's times like this when i really feel lonely and isolated. and all people can do is pick an argument: saying im being snobbish and not messaging people even though im online. what is there to say when no one has just gone what i have? i was totally cut at 2:30 in the morning and the first message i get when i come online is why im not chatting when im online. well, if i wasn't bawling my eyes out because i was so hurt and i felt so used, then i probably would have messaged people, yeh?

what has my msn status have to do with anything anyway? im feeling lonely and isolated from everyone else and does msn have a status for that? im not busy, away, out for lunch, be right back, on the phone or appear offline. what happened just then was uncalled for and i didnt need other people being a busy body and caring about my msn status when a quarter of my world was collapsing. i tried to be civil about it and saw the funny side of it but people just took the wrong cue and it shows how much importance you place on yourself.

it's like im half dying here, crying in pain and all you do is make a big deal on how im snobbish and ignoring you?

but then to some people, who am i to you? :( who do you think i am? a marketing strategy? *hi, im from australia* wow such broad, international market appeal! my arse, that is...

all i know is that im still deeply cut... all because i should have gotten over this ages ago.

Correct Punctuation

SHOUT OUT: HAPPY 20TH YE WON! WHOO HOO!! and guess what! it's the 6th of the 6th of the 6th... i mean 060606 or... 666! bahaha! nah, dont be superstious! i wish a happy birthday and all your wishes will so fully come true!

im currently taking a break from typing up notes for property law. which topic am i doing? i'm doing indefeasibility and exceptions.

so im taking a break and surfing on people's blog when i have realised something that i was meant to say A LONG TIME AGO. it is something that i believe was accidentally left off my zero tolerance list.

Ellipses are THREE fullstops NOT TWO.

i just cannot stand the amount of people who use two fullstops to indicate the trailing off when the rule is to use three. i was taught that ellipses are three fullstops and will only be three fullstops, not four, not two. this is in English and in Chinese, it is six. six and will always be six, not five, not seven.

if you do not believe me, check this out:
http://www.nyu.edu/classes/copyXediting/Punctuation.html#ell

it says:
ELLIPSES
Use for omitted material.
Use for a pause longer than a dash (but do not let a writer overuse this device).
For example, The text was trailing off ...

note how in the example, three fullstops were used instead of two. that is because ELLIPSES ARE THREE FULLSTOPS, NOT TWO.

oh gosh! i cannot stand the amount of people who do not understand this!

im going to post this entry in all my blogs! i want everyone to know this!

ARGH!

JYKW

ps. today was pretty funny... (see the ellipse?) hmm, i'll put something up about today later.

I'm here!

it's been a while since my last proper post and quite a few things has happened.

before i continue...

SHOUT OUT: TO ALL MY FRIENDS WITH BIRTHDAYS IN JUNE, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! THIS GOES TO... YEWON, ZOE, CHLOE, JOANNA... hehe~!

im currently in bed haha i bought a laptop the other day and honestly, i feel slow now because this machine is so fast! and i bought an electronic dictionary as well. feldman asked why i needed one like a FOB and today, joe asked the exact same question. i wanted it because it'll make looking up a definition a lot faster. but i still encourage primary school children to use actual dictionaries.

so basically i have a massive dent in my wallet now. im so sorry chloe, yewon and zoe... i cannot make it to your birthday dinner/party.

i recon this will definitely come back to me, so that's why im planning not to have a massive 21st and just spend it with family and close family friends. i dont want to get dogged because yeh, i know how it feels. and then, i dont want people to spend money on me. it's the fact that it's a 21st that people feel they have to spend a fortune. i dont want my friends to go through a financial crisis because of me. one less 21st means one less present to buy means more money to say. =)

i got *re-united* with one of the first people i met when i came to australia in 1991. it was kinda weird because i thought she looked familiar and seriously, i was literally holding my breath when i asked her for her name. it turned out that she was really who i thought she was but too bad she has forgotten me because we moved from parra to dundas valley about 6 months later. it turns out that she left that primary school in year 4 and ended up going to baulkham hills high. such a smartie!

oh there was an awkward moment then because i asked a question that was very sensitive to the tone i use. so i asked her which degree she's doing at mac uni and she told me she goes to SIBT. out of curiosity i asked,

"what are you doing at SIBT?"

and if you really think about it, imagine how that question would have sounded if i had used the wrong tone of voice...

"what are you DOING at SIBT?"
and
"WHAT are you doing at SIBT?"

just as i was asking that question, it clicked and i had to cover myself so that i didnt sound too offensive. i didnt mean to make it sound slack, i just wanted to know which degree she was doing at SIBT. apparently she's doing arts in media or something and she's going to transfer to 2nd year mac uni next year. such a smartie. =)

im officially stressed about my finals and i know i shouldnt be complaining and i should have started to prepare for this earlier. i really dont want to fail.

i'v got my piano exam soon as well. i have finally got the hang of the pieces im playing and that is a little soothing to know haha... i hope i pass my piano exam as well.

i was planning to go to singapore and hk at the end of this year but now, the airfare is too expensive so i'm thinking of going to taiwan now. im still deciding. ><"" ross is going to singapore and malaysia next month and im so jealous! i really want to go to singapore.

didnt realise how much of my life actually revolved around money. i've noticed a few greedy thoughts have come up and it's hard to resolve them... still trying hard

well i better to go bed now. i have work tomorrow and i should sleep =P

until next time, tata la!
